    Remember cast iron is brittle, and not terribly hard, so you want to use a light touch.

    I have my husbands’ family’s cast iron washpot (the sort you did laundry in over an open fire)… it’s been sandblasted several times.

    Don’t see why you can sand blast that because it is iron. You will need to cure it again by covering with light oil, wiping off and baking in hot oven.

    If it’s iron, you can rub the excess rust off with steel wool, then rub the entire surface with cooking oil and heat the pan to cure it. Don’t let it rust again.
