I’ve made several referrals to the link below. The methods might seem extreme but they work!

if you’re talking about a cast-iron dutch oven, you need to use the least amount of soap you can get by with. if there is caked-on food, you can soak it with water for a while but not more that about 6 hours, then scrub it. the important thing is to dry it immediately with a towel, and then if you have time, rub a small bit of oil in it and dry it in the oven… say, 300 degrees for about 5 minutes. this will prevent it rusting, and also make it less likely to stick foods next time you use it.

We used plain water-small amount. And a steel wool pad(plain, not SOS). If you are camping, or near a beach-use sand. Scrub out the left over food and stuck-on crud. Use a paper towel to dry, and another towel with a little bit of oil. Wipe the entire pan, in and out.(reseason). Then, you are pretty much ready for re-use.

Wipe out or scrub the food out of the pan. Use steel wool or a cloth. NO SOAP!!! You may need to soak it a little to get it all to come off.

Warm it in an oven for a few minutes (300 degrees for 5-10 min sounds good) to dry completely. Wipe the inside with a little bit of vegetable oil and put away.

Don’t let the lid shut all the way- you don’t want the oil to get rancid. Take a paper towel and fold it in half and roll it up to make a spacer.
