    cooking on top of a range with a dutch oven is nothing more than a thick pot with a lid. to use a dutch oven to bake, you need to dig a hole in the ground and fill it with coals and place coals on top of the lid so you get heat coming into the oven from top and bottom evenly, this is how the early pioneers in the United States baked. I think you are looking more for a toaster oven, it is a counter top appliance that has a glass door on front with wire racks in it, they are good for baking a small chicken or other items.

    I have an electrical dutch oven that lets me control the temp. So I can make cakes and what not. If you are using a dutch oven pot OVER heat, I wouldnt bake in it only because, you dont know exactly what the temp is and its hard to control :(

    A dutch oven is a cooking pot with a lid.
    To cook in a dutch oven, you dump everything in, usually add water, and then let it cook.

    Here in Toronto Canada, they sell baking dishes called "French White" which are two liter high walled dishes with clear pyrex lids. You can use them like dutch ovens, by putting them in the oven with the lid on.

    Another way is to use the electric type. With these you usually buy a liner bag made of heat-proof plastic. This keeps the cooking dish clean because after the food is cooked and removed, you just peel out the liner bag. They sell electric cookers like this in department stores, such as Sears.

    You can get a counter top oven here in the States at least that has a convection oven built into it. They are prob using something like that there. I baked all kinds of things in mine at a restaurant and it works great. You can also do nachos and other toaster oven things in it. It is weird since you are putting metal in it when it is an oven but not when it is being used as a microwave.

    The way to bake on a stove top is to use two cast iron pans with one smaller than the other. You bake in the small pan by heating the big pan on a burner and placing it on top of the small pan. The small pan is on very low heat. I’ve baked like this in Japan where they don’t have ovens either.
