Just recently bought a new Dutch oven from qvc .I love these things.First you can start your meats on the stove top by browning them …transferring them to the oven to finish cooking there .I make Pot roast , meat stews , casseroles , lots of things in mine .pot pies ..sheppherds pies ..just look up on google or the food network sites ..recipes for dutch ovens !You will love it !

is this a dutch oven with the legs and the dished lid? Those are really good for campfire cooking. No legs and a non dished lid are great for anything you can think of. Baking cakes, biscuits, cobblers, chili, stew, soup, braised ribs. The possibilities are quite endless. You do mean cast Iron dont you? There are many excellent books on dutch oven cooking. I recommend one by Don Holm. You may have to order it from Powells Books in Portland Or. They have an excellent online catalog and ordering service.
